Did you know that only 15% of Americans are prepared for an emergency or natural disaster? September is National Preparedness Month and Seattle Works is pairing up with Points of Light to help Seattle get Good & Ready!
This past Saturday, we worked with Target as part of the Good & Ready initiative to help families in Rainier Vista create preparedness kits to take home.
Our colleagues at the Seattle Office of Emergency Management, Neighborhood House, the Rainier Vista Boys & Girls Club and Seattle Housing Authority helped us pull off the event, which created 200 kits for local families!
Kits included water bottles, dust masks, garbage bags, hand sanitizing wipes, hand-crank flashlights, whistles and first aid kits. We sent families home with resources to continue creating disaster preparedness plans. A huge thanks to Target for sponsoring the event and providing families with the essential items they need to get started preparing for disaster.
We also have to give a special thanks to volunteers from FEMA Corps who were a huge help pulling off the event!
